Great socially distanced innovations bringing people together in Cardiff during COVID-19

UK Hospitality

COVID-19 has made it harder than ever to stay connected and enjoy all of the things that are so central to our culture. Dining out has become more challenging during this period, leaving the UK with an appetite for eating and drinking out (especially if that involves a few pints in the summer sunshine!)

Despite the challenges that COVID has brought about, there have been some great socially distanced innovations that have helped us to continue to enjoy spending time together outside of our homes.

We wanted to celebrate some of these innovative hospitality ideas that have helped make COVID livable, and ensured that we can still have a good time in a safe and hygienic way. Take a look for some inspiration for your next foodie outing!

  1. Castle Quarter Cafe Food Court

Mobile ordering has enabled businesses to keep people coming out to enjoy delicious food in exciting settings, and the Castle Quarter has been able to capitalise on this. This has been a great thing, not only for the people of Cardiff, but the businesses that have been struggling to get back on their feet post-COVID. With mobile ordering in place, businesses are able to operate profitably with the two metre rule in place.

The Castle Food Court offers a beautiful setting, laid next to the castle in the city centre. If you want to dine in, there will be 75 tables with a socially distanced layout and plenty of open space. Plus, you’ll be able to wander around the old cobbled streets, or enjoy the beautiful Bute Park across the road if you fancy a take out.

With lots of space and mobile ordering fully set up, you can eat out at Castle Quarter without having to feel stressed about social distancing and hygiene.

  1. Street Food Cinema

No physical contact, no physical menus, and no queueing. Sounds like the ideal set up, right? Well, if you’re looking for a COVID-friendly way to enjoy a movie and some amazing street food, then the Street Food Cinema has got you covered.

Cardiff’s first dedicated drive through film and street food experience is now open and is enabling movie-goers to order delicious local food from their phones. This is an amazing opportunity to try something totally different, in a relaxed and safe setting. Enjoy some foodie favourites like Franks Hot Dogs, Dirty Bird, Joe’s Ice Cream and Blakes Popcorn.

  1. Street Food Social

DEPOT had a knock back in having to postpone their Cardiff Castle DEPOT event to 2021, but that hasn’t stopped them on their mission to bring the best street food around to Cardiff.

DEPOT is still running at a reduced capacity, to invite people to discover the welsh foodie scene. From Ginstock, to Bingo Lingo and Street Food Social, DEPOT has put itself on the map as the venue that is immersed in the Cardiff culture and it’s now opening again with 8 vendors and socially distanced outdoor space.

The Street Food Social starts up again in August, offering an amazing foodie experience that’s not to be missed!

  1. Babylon Rooftop Social

Nothing says bank holiday like cocktails on a rooftop bar, and Babylon is one of the most innovative and exciting events happening in Cardiff at the moment. Traditionally a space for antiques, this huge venue is home to TEAK - one of Cardiff’s most exciting music events that takes place in the basement of this multi-storey antique house.

The Jacobs Roof Garden is opening its doors to folk wanting socially distanced food and drinks overlooking the city. With DJs, cocktails and plenty of outdoor seating, you’ll be in your element.

  1. The UK’s First Prosecco Festival

That’s right - Cardiff is about to be home to the UK’s first Prosecco Festival. With prosecco being one of the UK’s most popular drinks, it makes sense that a prosecco festival should bring prosecco lovers together for a day of fun.

If you’re looking for an exciting new way to try some new prosecco flavours in a socially distanced environment, the Prosecco Festival at Portland House will be ideal for you!

  1. Speak Easy - A Prohibition Drinks Festival

If COVID has felt a bit like prohibition for you (and hasn’t it a bit for all of us?!) then this speakeasy event will help to erase the memories of quarantine from your memory.

Get transported back 100 years when mobstars and movie stars mingled, and get all dressed up to enter the secret venue with a special password. This socially distanced speakeasy festival is coming to Cardiff in November - grab your tickets now.
